Pain Avoidance Disorder

Pain Avoidance Disorder

A Poem by Butterflymom
"

A new diagnosis for DSM-IV ( tongue in cheek of course)

"

Condensing pain to a managable state

Is an art I know all too well

Shoving it down to a restless place

Trying to contain it

Must take skill

My "drug of choice" they ask?

Oh, any will do but it must be fast

Caretaking

Shopping

Working

Eating

Pills now and then

Leaving this place my mind goes blank

And nothing at all goes in

My emotions go dead while I'm in my head

Over this I have no control

But I've lost just as much from this horrible "drug"

And it's lonely as hell in my head!
