When I Lay Down at Night

Just something I threw together on a whim.....don't judge too harshly please!

Drifting through and traveling light

Trying to make it to journeys end

Longings for home come more often

When I lay awake at night

 

Thinking of all the loved ones

Whose journeys are complete

That call out to me softly

When I lay awake at night

 

It's getting harder to feel comfortable

Traveling on graveled, dusty roads

I get weary and start missing home

When I lay awake at night

 

I'm taking off my walking shoes

And putting away my coat

I won't need them when I leave

When I lay down for the night

 

When I wake up, a new place I will be

No longer weary because I'll be home

And with other family

When you lay me down for that long night

Very nice, tied together well with the final line of each stanza.
It could use some rhyme to help it flow a bit more.
But, like I said, it's good - you convey your feelings well.
