What Would I Give?

What Would I Give?

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery
"

for Johnny Dee Brooks, as always you are on my mind. I miss you!

"

what would I give...

for the chance to say good-bye?

to turn back the hands of time, and see that sparkle in your eye?

what would I give...

for the chance to change your mind?

to warn you that in the choice you make, the end is all you'll find?

what would I give...

to see the life you'd build?

to look into your parents' eyes, and not see them sorrow-filled?

what would I give...

to see that crooked grin?

or for that little girl of yours, to have you back again?

what would I give...

what WOULDN'T I give?

A question that every person asks, themselves when a lover is tragically taken away. Sadly, there is no answer for it, except to time travel and currently that is impossible. Your poem touches emotions that i had thought safely buried in my past, over the death of my Opa. Maybe, i'm a little bais here, but poetry that moves a person emotionally as your does, is very special. Thank you for sharing this personal and very emotional poem with us.

what would I give" Carrie, reading the first sentence one can get a feeling for the meaning of this poem as interpreted by the reader, to wish for one more chance to say final goodbyes, as if the departing was do to unfortunate circumstances unpredicted

by anyone but God himself, I like the form you chose to accentuate the meaning,
the heart can feel the sorrow combined with a sadness to embrace a love one more time, to know what it would be to feel the presence of a feeling that has dissapated

into eternity. your words have the ability to move the reader with the passionate
desire metaphoricically enhanced to project the ambition of knowing that the past
will remain as it is, and in no way can it be changed, I'm sure that many people
can relate to the realisticness in subtlely, beautifully done,
Take Care, Mike
