WHEN YOU KNOW

WHEN YOU KNOW

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery

when dreams have all faded

and your heart becomes jaded

when your tears have been cried

and you know love's a lie

-then you know what you know

and it's time to let go

when your heart begins breaking

'cause it's not love you're making

when you dread things that were once so sweet

and  see "possibilty" in others you meet

- then you know what you know

and it's time to let go

when touching them brings unease

and it seems as though you're never pleased

when hot emotion has run cold

and you cannot count the lies you've told

-then you know what you know

and it's time to let go

when kindness becomes hard to find

and leaving is what's on your mind

life is too short to live a lie

and everyone knows even true love dies...

when you know what you know

and you KNOW that you know

well, then you know that

IT'S TIME TO LET GO

wow what a great poem...i LOVE the way you talk through the realization that you just can't fake it anymore, i think way too often too many of us just lie to ourselves b/c sometimes it is easier to stick it out and we dont want to admit the passion is gone....but this phrase :

life is too short to live a lie
and everyone knows even true love dies...

certainly stirs up the truth about dragging on a stale relationship....really nicely written!

A very powerful and moving poem about the realization that one can fall out of love and the steps needed to be done. Sadly, i know too many people who lie to them, thinking "if only i tried harder, he'll love me again". Thank you for sharing this poem with us.

It is not always easy but sometimes "it's time to let go" well done!

With this work, I see the conflict of not wanting to let go a relationship built over time and the realization that nothing good can come of it any longer. The realization of the end is the most difficult and you captured all those feelings here in an excellent manner.

Facing the truth is not always easy; building is much to be preferred over tearing down. You have summarized the torment well in your poem.

Nice work...!

Sad but true... you did such a great job keeping the flow and yet boldly displaying the emotions that come with the realization one must face... if it is not a two way street in love then you must move on and find something worth fighting for and has a future. Wonderfully penned.
