My Man Digs

My Man Digs

A Poem by Entropy of the mind

My man digs pits
Wakes up every morning, somber onyx eyes
pulls out his shovel, goes out back
begins to shovel the earth
he was doing this before i met him
and i didn't know before, but when he told me
I had to ask
"what are you looking for?"

He says he isn't sure
And he through up his hands
his eyes wet with precipitation
or maybe it was the dying humidity
but he screams about his agony

My man hollows out the dirt
4 feet
5 feet
6 feet
soon you cant even see his face through the muck

Baby, I call him
But he doesn't pick up
and i found that its easy
if i were gone the process would still continue to repeat

my man buries himself in the dirt
and they call him a dead beat
but my man is sweet
and my man is easy
and even though he'll take us both to his grave
i think it'll be okay

i just gotta be optimistic bout this
