The Promise...

Between a caregiver and a cancer patient.

Pain residing in my head,

memories lye there left unread.

Sickness rising in my chest,

no chance for solace in unrest.

Muscles convulse due to you,

seizure’s turning my face blue.

Time to undergo the knife,

white coats like to slice and dice.

Tubes constrict my chance to speak,

cancer makes the body weak.

Chemo running through my veins,

takes no prisoners, causing pain.

I have hope, I have my love,

her shines brighter than stars above.

In her I find heaven’s bliss,

I find it in her every kiss.

In her arms I find my rest,

my heart it beats inside her chest.

To our love there’s no compare,

I see, I feel it, everywhere.

I feel it in her laughter’s glee,

I feel it in sensuality.

I see it in the peace I find,

I’ll cherish her till end of time.

I find it in the way she smiles,

she stands beside me all the while.

I see her, her hidden fear,

behind her eyes a secret tear.

It can’t be easy loving me,

because of cancer, I’m not free.

She is my hero, she’s my light,

she’s the reason for my fight.

I’m filled with love at every glance,

lovingly her eyes do dance.

Sensually across my skin,

radiating from within.

In her beauty, deep inside,

in her heart I will reside.

There I’ve found my resting place,

filled with passion and warm embrace.

I gently take her by the hand,

as our toes sink into sand.

I want you until the end of days,

I never want us to part ways.

You’re the beginning and the end,

in you I have found my best friend.

My dear soulmate, I do promise,

to save you each and every kiss.

To stand by you through thick and thin

and to return back home again.

I vow to you my promised one,

to love you fiercer than the sun.

To loyally respect all we have,

to try to be a brilliant dad.

To hold your hand as time allows,

to share a love that’s so profound.

Just as you have done for me,

I will love you endlessly.

I am blessed that our paths crossed,

in your heart I did defrost.

Before you life was grim and dark,

but then you lit that precious spark.

one that now I cannot be without,

so I know without a doubt.

That you are the only one for me,

I'll spend my days making you happy.

I'll provide your each and every need,

Baby will you marry me?

I know that I can be a pain,

there is no sunshine without rain.

I know at times things are hard,

just look back we've come so far.

To have you, I'll be blessed,

despite my faults, please say yes...

What a beautiful and touching poem on cancer, pain and love. The first part is very sad however in the end you get filled up with the beauty that true love gives off. A nice portrayal of it written here.

I remember reading this, and positively adoring it, but as I see no review from me, I can only assume I either had to step away & got sidetracked, or the page got stuck (this site is really slow for me most days). Better late than never! ANYWAY... As I said, I *adore* this poem. It's incredibly lovable, heartfelt, and sweet! Your rhyming is great, and you're an amazing storyteller ~ starting off in pain, describing why, and then going into the reasons why you have hope... Wonderful :)
