Peter Pan and the Orphan

Peter Pan and the Orphan

A Poem by DJ
"

An orphan's dream once dreamt.

"

When I was young I wanted to be

Just like Peter Pan

He is an orphan too you see

But he resides in Neverland

A beautiful and ageless place

With pirates and fairies

Filled with wonder and with grace

A place a child was free

I sat alone, wondering

Gazing up at the clouds

Silently pondering

How to get there somehow

I lived inside a concrete tomb

Where I could hardly breathe

While Peter Pan just up and flew

I was longing to be freed

Orphans left abandoned here

In this darkened hell

Wishing we could fly up there

Where happiness was sure to dwell

Trapped, alone, indefinitely

My pain and suffering was enjoyed

My tormentors, my only company

I was destined to remain a Lost Boy

Wishing on the second Star,

The brightest light

My savior would come from afar

Gliding through the night

And leave my window ajar

And be stolen out of the bed

Blanket laid on cold concrete

No more tears to be shed

If Peter Pan, I did meet

I always listened for the Tink

The beautiful ring so clear

Of Tinkerbell a tinkering

Music to my ears

As time dragged out I lost faith

It would never materialize

A fairy dropped, met her fate

As the truth I realized

There was no tick tock crocodile

To slay Captain Hook

My dreams deemed infantile

An orphan’s happiness

Existing only in a book…

A child's wish to be somehow rescued. It takes a lot of real emotional work to sort through those feelings when we grow up.

Some poems are just harder to review. I think this is one of them. The subject of the piece and the deeply personal approach to it I find honourable. I can only stand back and admire the fortitude it took to survive and the courage displayed in writing about it today.

Thank you...bob

Even though the story told is an unhappy one, the poetry itself is quite beautiful. Given what I've learned about you today, I'm filled with more admiration than before ~ you could have grown up full of rage, resentment, and hatred, yet you appear to be the complete opposite despite all you've been through. Remarkable. :)

This is so familiar to me. I remember similar thoughts as a child. This here is a top-notch example of touching upon feelings and childhood memories (Peter Pan) that we all have in common. Sometimes they are hard to write, sometimes easy, but when you can touch the audience on this level, the words just -shine-. Definitely a worthwhile read.

wow, i related to the emotions of this poem, i love books and would love to do adventures to do more live more and fullfill my dreams, but then you ll just realize that its nothing but fantasy , an imagination, but if we do did not dreamed/imagined our lives would be gray .
i remember being trapped to , not literally but the fact that you cant just jump out your window and just fly and seek puremjoy. wishing that books are just real, to live in it but as time goes by they are just books, they say but the memories still remains

BANGARANG Cario! This too is one of my favorite stories of magic, adventure, and unexpressed love. Second star to the right straight on until morning. I was looking for something relating that and was so happy you had it included. Wonderful poem, it speaks for all the magic we believe in as kids. Our minds and hearts know without a doubt and nothing will tell us differently that Neverland is a real place. That the Santa is real and takes gifts to every boy and girl in one night. And somewhere in a Galaxy far far away..... The underling forces of light will battle against the dark side of the force. Good write it made me very happy. Go you!

“I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you.” saying from a sacred book. Nothing happens to you except in accordance with GOD's will. Anyone who believes in GOD, He will guide his heart. GOD is fully aware of all things.

my favorite lines, because it's just the entire poem you're wanting to be free but sadly at the end it's come to a realization that it's only in books where it can happen:/ beautifuly written though.
