Cross out the Stars

Cross out the Stars

A Poem by Calum Mac
"

Yet another musically inspired piece, this time from the band Fightstar. And I've been thinking about this theme for a long time...

"

Twinkling.

Shinning.

Shimmering.

They hang there,

The stars.

And we lay there,

Under them.

The inky blackness spread over

Us like a vast, omnipresent blanket.

Dotted upon it were lives,

Candles that flickered in the dark.

I turn to you and say,

“What if?”

What if one of those candles was

Suddenly extinguished?

Raising an arm, and outstretched finger in front

Of my eye.

I cover a star.

It becomes crossed out.

Taking the finger away, the star disappears.

Widened eyes stared on, hoping it’d come back.

And yet...

Nothing.

Twinkling.

Shinning.

Shimmering.

Gone.

I turn to you.

And you were gone...

I am at university, my second year, and I am studying English, of all things. It's really exciting and...yeah...blah, blah, blah. You probably don't wanna hear about any of that. Just know that I'm no.. more..
