Aftermath

Aftermath

A Poem by Calum D Cameron
"

A peice documenting the world after doing some thinking and mental reorganisation, where some thoughts and ideas were severed, but those connections and links remained active, searching for a new host

"
Aftermath

I have made some critical decisions
Examined the thoughts locked inside
Took up the blade, made incisions
Then started cutting into my mind
That pain was comforting and warm
Layers of delusions peeling away
My last defence against the storm
Years of longing just couldn't stay

Two seasons of the same infection
Were forcefully cut from my heart
There was no point in my affection
So I killed it, and ripped it apart
Stamped out the last of the fires
When the only solution was violence
To destroy all those futile desires
Replaced now by sickening silence

Banishing the anger and frustration
Casting my feelings into exile
To wander the wastes of devastation
Into a world so cold and hostile
For there is no place for them here
My mind cleansed of their curse
Hoping they will never reappear
For their vengeance will be worse

They seek across the barren land
Scouring for another innocent host
Reapers acting beyond my command
Plan to strike where it hurts most
Enraged by years of starvation
They stalk anyone, looking to feed
Blinded by one dark fixation
To satisfy each neglected need

Hide from them, ignore their lies
Gilded words laced with toxicity
Cascading on those silken cries
Woven into inviting eccentricity
Only casting a false projection
Concealing the darkness inside
Run now, for your own protection
Heaven help those left behind

At the epicentre of my demise
I see the shadows dancing ahead
Hunting for their newest prize
From my wounds the darkness bled
Those feelings are out of control
It's my fault, I opened the gates
Severed the link between my soul
Only to see the damage it creates
