Paint Me A Picture

Paint Me A Picture

A Poem by Carson Kramer

Paint me a picture dear lady. Splash love on a canvas.
Use bold brushstrokes to create your dreams.
Use vivid colors to shine through the darkness
And take your time, I want it to shine
As bright as reflections on a lake of fire.
Use this canvas to boldly state that which you long for
What burns inside.
Take time on that sky
That's where you'll find the beautiful birds that will help you to fly.
Depict for me a state of grace and peace
Let the hues wash over it and cleanse your soul.
This canvas allows you to drink of and dream
Everything life has, let it shine.
Just let it shine.
You're worthy, you're worth it.
Grab it, own it.
Just paint me that picture, I'll hang it on high
To remind me of you
And enrich my life.
If only to chance we leave it there
It will have hung to remind me
Just why I care.

I love almost everything about your poem. I love all the different details you use to uplift & encourage this other person, the object of your message. I love how your writing is full of energy & enthusiasm. But as an independent woman myself, owner of my own path in life, I bristle at the way your poem seems to suggest that this other person needs prodding. The tone feels a teensy bit condescending to me, which could be improved if you used a more inclusive pronoun like "we/us" instead of "you" -- which makes this feel a little preachy when this prodding is pointed at the other person only. It could feel less abrasive if you commended the other person once in awhile, giving her some credit for already having lots of these ideas in hand already -- like she is competent. Example: I love watching you take your time . . . this sounds better than TELLING her to take her time becuz YOU WANT her art to be such-and-such . . . all about how you want it . . . not a good look. I could go for a more balanced look at this message, becuz it is an awesome message, one that lots of people would love to get, such encouragement like this. Thank you for understanding my contrary perspective (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

About
You have come to the Nom de Plume, of the writer known as, Nipplegrinder. It was suggested that I would receive a more welcoming response, if I hadn't such a repulsive screen name. (Thank you, Lyn.) .. more..
