Diamonds and gold.

                Diamonds and gold

I held wealth and traveled to the four corners of our world.
I lost and gained love. I thought I knew what life and love was.
I wear an old man face now and I remember every kiss and every embrace.
I remember old faces missed. Old voices telling me to slow down and enjoy life.
The kind teachers and elders gave me good direction to find the proper journey.

I became my Grandfather. I hear his voice when I speak. His old fashion wisdom became my way. My door is wide open for the kids and I cherish my time with the grandchildren.

The diamonds and the gold of life is love shared and earned.
Love given without demand. Holding child when they have bad dreams.
Whispering you will be fine. Grandpa is here.
Telling friends and family. Please call me if the life become too hard. I will help and support you.  I need you happy and strong.

Love is defined in many ways. Young love is of beautiful places and faces.
Middle age love is for new life to be cherish and to watch grow.
Old man love. To have the children at your feet. Laughter always loud and strong in your home. To lead with kindness, concern and love.

I have the diamonds and gold of life. Family near and grand children in the house.
I tell the kids. Slow down, take pictures and know love.

I like how this expresses that the true lasting thing that makes us happiest is love. Sure, money and wealth are good to get through life, but sometimes it can be taken to extremes where people lose their health for the money or wealth. Happiness is the actual gold and silver in life. I like how the last line emphasizes that it is important to live in the moment.

I wear an old face now... I like that line.
and- I hear his voice when I speak.

Many treasures here- let the little ones hear it- from your voice-
read it to them- slow down.

soak it in- great reminder for today.

Thank you dear friend. I appreciate the comment.
I like the theme that has been highlighted here. The way one lives life and expresses affection changes as one grows up. Your work is simply fabulous. Being a grandparent, having the grandchildren on your lap and other emotions have been beautifully pictured. Nice read. Keep writing.

A very poignant write, Coyote.

Very important words of wisdom throughout. The importance of love, family, cherishing every moment, capturing every moment as life ushers us along.
i identify with this poem on many levels, most defining being that of getting older, changing in appearance and attitude, yet somewhere deep inside, still being the same person i was when i was a young guy.
Life should indeed be all that you have described here; cherish the diamonds and gold, and all the moments that come from holding these most precious gems.
A very philosophical, and worldly poem. Great work!

Thank you Doodley. I appreciate the kind words.
Golds and diamonds are things we all have, but the problem is opening our eyes to see them. Often times we lose these golds and diamonds while we were busy searching for what we already have and instead collecting stones. Beautiful piece, the joy of old age and other things I'll understand better when I'm older. Thanks for sharing.

This is beautifully awesome! *goose bumps!* I love all the specific examples of what the diamonds & gold of your life look & feel like. This is the kind of message that convinces us, not becuz the writing is crafted to do so, but it's convincing becuz of the underlying tones of deep love & acceptance & gratitude. Your ATTITUDE is what sells us on this way of looking at life. This is a precious gift to anyone who hasn't found this yet. Keep looking . . . it's available to all of us! *smile*

I agree and thank you my dear friend Pryde
Not 'Just Words', my friend. There is such finality in this piece - almost as if you've truly discovered the correct formula for life. Love is such a powerful force, it's a shame we waste our life on things of little value instead of appreciating that which material cannot acquire. The wisdom in this piece is almost haunting - Thank you for this piece Coyote.
