Flesh and bones

Flesh and bones

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Life is to be lived. Need to celebrate being alive.

"

          Flesh and bones

(Need a positive poem. Life is to be celebrated. Each day is a gift.)

I fell from the top of the mountain.

I stood with so many victories.

I realized too late.
They don't mean too much.

Beautiful young woman sitting between my legs.

She looked up.
Told me, "It don't matter anyway.

We are only flesh and bones."

I sat by the ocean.

Watching the her  power and  beauty.

The ocean is heartless.

So dangerous and tempting.

Woman with sad eyes sat with me.

She wished she was a better person.

I told her.

We are but flesh and bones.

In time we will fade away to distance memories.

I gave everything away.

I roamed with the poets and the musicians.

We sat late into the night together on lonely Monterey beaches.

Drinking and talking of things that was and were to be.

The singer sang a love song.

When he is done.

He told me.
" Love doesn't really mean too much.

We are but flesh and bones."

Just here awhile to try to celebrate being alive.

We danced and ran the lonely beaches.

We said a prayer to our God.
For one more day to be alive and free.

For we are but flesh and bones.

life can be cruel if you think about the 100 reasons to cry but i think life is beautiful thinking about the 1000 reasons to smile. alot of my old freinds didn't realize that which is probably why i was the last man standing with a smile. great poem is was enlightment to me :)

Wow - you lost two brothers to suicide? Life can be great, but it can be so cruel. We all need to learn to live in the good moments... you are very good at writing about love and pain, and your poem is nicely balanced - the reader realizes that there actually is a reason we all need to be happy. So sorry for the loss of your two brothers... :'(

Such a strong and true message. It seems to me that people get so lost in the complications of society that they forget how simple life can (and, in my opinion, should) be. Whether the world live in is a cruel heartache or a beautiful miracle depends upon our perspective, and to view our existence as nothing but flesh and bones is to view it as a miracle indeed. Thank you.

Your author's note made me ache... and your words spoke with a bittersweet music... of life and love and who we are... who we are not as well.. Brilliantly voiced...

When we know we are fragile, we can know where to look for strength.

I thought the flow was very natural, the line "Woman with sad eyes sat with me" is particularly lyrical. This piece would make a great song in the style of Bob Seger. There are a few errs in grammar, but those few are its only flaws

This is so very true, the next minute is not promised it is what is happening now that is most important and so many people seem to miss that message. This was a great poem!!

"She looked up.

This reminds me that all that matters is the present moment, the now. I needed that reminder.

Thank you for sharing this.

This is GREAT Coyote, and maybe more poignant knowing the background...
However, even without your tragedies...this is an extremely profound, personal and heartfelt write. Beautifully written with a positive flow throughout. It is true, we have our trials and travails and yes we are flesh and bones but can we ever forget that we are also made up a heart, a mind and a soul.
I've already read this three times and saved in my library....I loved it
