In Monterey

In Monterey

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

We can try to escape. Sooner or later the memory will catch up with us.

"
        In Monterey

I called you to tell you I was all right.

I don't remember losing you so much here.

The winter days of Michigan made me sad.

Here in Monterey I never get  cold and the sun appears everyday.

I go to the ocean.

Listen to the sea lions cry.

I don't feel so lonely.

I will stay in California.

The pain is less.

I can't promise to forget you.

But I'm OK.

I'm safe from  the hunger to hold and touch you.

The cold of Michigan winter brings me back to your memory.

The 3000 miles will protect me.

I wonder do you miss me?

The man who tried to make you laugh.

The man who tried to love you.

Here in Monterey.

The pain is less.

Someday we will talk face to face.

Maybe on a summer day.

Maybe restructuring and reordering the sentences to promote a smoother connection of ideas. I was distracted and started thinking about your writing process. Any distraction is cause for a revision. Some sentence inversions might to the trick and add a real pop to your poem! As usual, thanks for sharing.

I liked reading this. If only 3000 miles really could keep one safe from memories and protect from loving one missed.

WE
all have those places, safe secluded places, to hide the pain in the hope that wounds that can never really heal will somehow be forgotten, but they never are, are they?
Sad poetry that so many will relate too. Well written Bravo :0)

This poem made is making it's way into my Library... You have that stronge voice from the past in this, speaking clear and dauntless, but making you wonder in the end... Being so young-extremely- Im sure i didn't grasp the full concept but I know enough to realize good work when I see it.

Very Nice,

Geeez my friend.. you really are that voice from the past.. one of ancients and smoke billowing into one's eyes, bringing out dreams in rivers that carve canyons into the crevices that wrinkle the memories of our face... I think i know the back story to this, but then how could we not with the wonderful way you express it to us... i too live here in Cali, and visit Monterrey quite often.. its a beautiful place that even heaven is envious of... those swells that never cease and the wildlife voices that pierce through the fog, are there to remind us, of all things eternal, like the breaths of our fate and the wings of hopeful tomorrows...

This reminds me of my own situation. I used to live in Alabama, and moved Tennessee to escape my dark past. I know that I can't really escape because the memories are always there. But it's a good step and you have to think positive in life or it will control you.
