The Edge of Eternity

The Edge of Eternity

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

I sit on the edge of eternity

encapsulated

in a cocoon of light

Waiting for creation to breathe

its last breath

for forever to come

I wait patiently

Suspended

somewhere between time and space

Teetering

on the edge of life and death

I peer over the edge

of an immeasurable void

full of mystery and wonder

full of secret things forbidden

from the eyes of man

I sit on the edge of eternity

waiting for the end to come

waiting for the light of God

to shine down upon my soul

and free me from life’s deadly hold

I wait for the creation

of a brand new world

Where suffering and pain

are no more

Where the lion will peacefully

lie down with the lamb

and love will reign

in the hearts of all

On the edge of eternity

I sit and stare

across a boundless universe

where even the stars

hold their breath

in silent wonder

of all which is to come

A glimpse of heaven

fills my mind

and I become lost in its Glory

in its infinite joy

I reach out to touch it

but then it is gone

like a mirage

in a barren land

mystery’s promise

slipping

once again

through my hands

I sit on the edge of eternity

encapsulated

in a cocoon of light

Waiting for creation

to breathe

its last breath

Waiting

for forever

to come

Wow, so beautiful.
It really does have a calming effect when you read it, as if you can see the endless stars in the universe.

A amazing journey in your poem. The edge of eternity is place we seek and is hard to find. I like the flow of thoughts in your poem. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

I, too, can't wait to be wissked away to a better place. Where there's nothing but light and happiness.

Going to be worth waiting for :)
a wonderful mix of calmness and isolation. I love the progression of the piece, how it fades out into broken lines, it works so well with the words, with the poem as a whole. nice work.

I can feel the tension, almost suspense here. I feel the same way... The reference to the lion and the lamb was brilliant. Wonderful penning :3

I really enjoyed this. I feel there is a sense of melancholy, as if the writer is afraid to live life fully - and just holding on until death brings him/her to heaven. There is a slight hopefulness entwined within that gives the reader a sense of peace. Yet, for me... the sense of not fully living leaves a lingering aftertaste.
