Broken

Broken

A Poem by JNB

He owned his brokenness
Not out of pride or bravery
But shame and fear
He is broken after all
And because he owns it so well
nobody could see it's true depth
He made broken look wholesome
charisma to distract from and mask his vulnerability
Always underlying,
always undermining
His wit,
learned from literature and cinema.
Countless attempts to escape himself,
if but temporarily.
his passion, fueled by his pain
And the everpresent desperation to make it end.
He owned his brokenness
Not because he was proud of it
But rather, it was all he had these days
