The Staircase of Stillness

The Staircase of Stillness

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm

We have created a time where our air smiles like a precious gem found within a storm.

We have created a time

where our air smiles

like a precious gem

found within a storm.

Each spoken sentence

we find to be filled

with purpose,.....

sound and warm.

Regret does not glisten

nor is it placed in this time

dressed up as hurt

impossible to understand.

This is a place

where one can find

the staircase of stillness,

silence at hand.

Showers of love

fall as stars in this time

along the places where we sail

on a subtle breeze.

We can see their reflections

turned inside out......

like a smile

The last line was definitely my favorite. I really enjoyed reading this, as you have written it in a beautiful language, full of beautiful metaphors. Really great job:):):D.

Great poem and photo. They compliment each other well. "Staircase of Stillness" It's got a good ring to it.

Nice, warm poem. It reminds me, personally, of this dream I had where I was running up stairs. In my dream I was regretful that I lost my little sister. (I never really did) I think the way you write is very welcoming. Thanks.

Interesting to be getting around to reading this now, as a dear someone and I have recently discussed regret. The staircase puts me in mind of a useful meditation technique I was taught once. In this sense, I think quite insightful to relate a staircase to a place of stillness. Thanks Neva ever so much for sharing! Xo.

The creation, finding of a space and time to be human is to possess a rare gem indeed.

You always write these impacting poems that just devastate my mind with their explosion of disruptive energy. Sometimes I feel displaced and other times I feel calm! Go you and your awesome mind bombs :D

Thank you Moon :)
Really really stunning work. I can totally see this in a book of quotes:
Regret does not glisten
nor is it placed in this time
dressed up as hurt
impossible to understand.

Regret only glistens if you shine your light on it...

Two lines that really struck me the most were:
"Each spoken sentence we find to be filled with purpose, sound and warm" and "We can see their reflections turned inside out"
Beautifully worded.

I love staircases in poems. I can see so much symbolism in them, no matter what the context. To be honest, I have a bit of an obsession with them. They're very curious to me...
They serve as an entryway, to a space that is hidden from the view of other floors. I almost feel kind of superstitious towards them. Like they have their own sort of energy and influence. I feel the same way about doorways. You walk through them and you're in a different place. Rooms can feel as if they have different energies in them. Different vibes. If you can think about it like that... I've read studies about how walking through doorways causes you to forget things. Here's a quote from one of the articles about it:
"Entering or exiting through a doorway serves as an ‘event boundary’ in the mind, which separates episodes of activity and files them away."
Can make you wonder... I like to let my mind drift with thoughts like that.
I imagine that walking up a staircase has some sort of affect on people too. Or even an affect on the space itself. You may not forget things like with doorways, but perhaps other feelings/phenomenon could occur, maybe without you even noticing.

Your poem put my mind in a very peaceful and beautiful place.
It definitely made my mind start to drift... In a good way, I can assure you. :)
From the half of an essay I wrote above, you can tell that this poem really hit home with me. It was wonderfully worded, the content in it completely captured my interest, and provoked thoughts.
