The Sting

The Sting

A Poem by Jack Derbak
"

The poem is about betrayal; putting your trust into someone who you are comfortable with and getting hurt in the end. It's definitely not my greatest piece, but I've gotten lots of positive reception.

"
I see the moon, blackened skies
I force myself to close my eyes
Tainted windows, memories
Why did you leave me able to see

I can't stop from searching
Finding pieces of mind
Drowning out this yearning
I have to sail with this flawed design

We close our eyes to find we're running back in time
We turn our heads to see the sights we left behind
Left behind

Hold me back, I can't go anymore
I'm diving in our minds and there's no shore
Why do I sink? I'm not for sure
I guess I don't know what I'm going for

I've been baptized in oceans
The open bath of tears
Cleanse the soul of hoping
So I have no denial to fear

Struggling to live without a relapse
Flowing through the phases I deny
I want to snap at every single synapse
Don't want to feel the hurt this time

We close our eyes to find we're running back in time
We turn our heads to see the sights we left behind
Left behind

Hold me back, I can't go anymore
I'm diving in our minds and there's no shore
Why do I sink? I'm not for sure
I guess I don't know what I'm going for

We take our eyes off of pleasant things
A little darkness shades the sting
It's better to feel than fake it all
It's better to heal, than prolong my fall

We break in tears, I slam my fist
There's another man you'd rather kiss
My heart sinks low, my veins twist
I'm another man you'll never miss

Swallow my thorns so I can watch you choke
If I wanted to kill, you would never know
Because it's those feelings inside that I never show
The more they're locked up, the greater they grow

We take our eyes off of pleasant things
A little darkness shades the sting
It's better to feel than fake it all
It's better to heal, than prolong my fall

Author's Note

Jack Derbak
I got the name after I watched the movie "The Sting". It's a great movie. Anyways, the title, to quote Wikipedia (lolz): "...refers to the moment when a con artist finishes... and takes the mark's money... If a con game is successful, the mark does not realize he has been [cheated], at least not until the con men are long gone. "

Let me know if you liked it!
