Stepping Stone

Stepping Stone

A Poem by Jack Derbak

Tears I've tried to hide

Spreading through the window

Afraid that If I've died

You won't accept my glow

Sweetness draining over

All that's left is cold

The freedom I had tried to learn

Has melted with the snow

Bring me down forever

Never let me feel

Through the shattered ring I've weaved

So you think I will heal?

Goodbye hollow world

Doves reform to dust

The rose withers here without

The arms that held my trust

Cutting from the signal

I don't want to hear

The face remains inside my head

It repeats "your time is near"

Cannot stop the bleeding

Without intense pressure

So just spill me like you've always said

Because it will be your pleasure

Speak through silent sunset

I'm dying on this bed

Crafted of the crown of thorns

You've worn atop your head

Kiss me goodbye

Turn me over so you can't hear my screams

Bless me softly

As you cut me from your dreams

Sleep so softly

Pretend that I was nothing more than a stepping stone

Grab me tightly

With a hug around the throat, twisting slowly

Head hung low

Did you even shed one tear for me?

I guess I'll never know...
