Another Mile

Another Mile

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin

September comes!

Grapes are ripened on the vine

Bees lazily hum in early morn

Sun sets watch to changing time

When September days are born

Dawn has wakened with a chill

Grass is cool with morning dew

Maple leaves shivering still

With just a hint of golden hue

Corn has grown full in the husk

Pumpkins, full, out in the patch

Gardens rich with heady musk;

Last of summer's fruiting batch

Cow-pea baskets line the wall

Where once ripe tomatoes stood

Like omens of the coming fall

Upon the stacks of cut firewood

And so it goes, another mile

That need not rhyme nor reason

Summer passing with a smile

And autumn born in season

Gorgeous autumnal poem. Beautiful form, flow, cadence, rhyme . Evocative images of harvest and "September days". Little cowgirl steals the show! Love it & her!
