Child of Fire

Child of Fire

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin
"

...

"

Soft red curls cascade from shoulders

Across perfect skin so soft and warm

Her lips like treasures when I hold her

She kisses me, lying safe in my arms

Her love is greater than that of woman;

More precious, lacking wiles and desire

She only knows that her heart has room

For those she loves, this child of fire

A day in the park or reading books

I am burning inside to catch her smile

In a net perhaps like butterfly looks

Sweet memories of my child of fire

The smell of her, like violets and daisies;

An exotic perfume without a name.

Perhaps an orchid, drowsy and lazy

In sunlit climes of tropical rain

I melt at the touch of love as she tells

Her hand caressing my grizzled cheek

"I love you daddy" and my heart swells

With things too wonderful to speak

Sleeping, I sometimes sit and watch her

Like a guardian sphinx bent on giving

Back only half of the love I feel for

She has made my life worth living

Oh how humble my soul within me

As I carry her sleeping into her room

Her innocent eyes, closed and dreaming

Inhaling the sweetness of her perfume

And as I sit by her bed I am praying

Make me what she deserves for a dad

In fields of flowers we wander, playing

Till mother wakes me to come to bed

Her mother and I smile at each other

Without words, knowledge transpires

Our special girl is like no other

This beautiful flaming child of fire

As a parent I so agree with this feeling of ...overflowing with love for your kid...and to watch them sleep ....so peacefully after all the mischief ...its always beautiful and breath taking....it has been for me...from the first time I heard my little ones heart beats

How absolutely precious ... both your daughter and the poem. Each word is a petal, the poem a garden of love.

Thank you. My own special blessing in life, this little one.
What a beautiful child and poem! Lovely, tender, heart- felt words from father to his little daughter. Great form, cadence, flow and rhyme. Above all else, the pride, adoration and humility shine through the eloquent words. Real love. Bravo!
