Life is not a Metaphor

Life is not a Metaphor

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin
"

"What can I say but hey, we're dead soon..." Maui from Moana

"

Life is not a metaphor;

An abstract thought we're seeing

The body; not an allegory

Of soul inside the being

Old age is not a parody

Taken from some shelf

Or is it mere soliloquy

Just talking to itself

Time is not comparison

Of a child upon its bed

To a soldier in the garrison

Quoting books he's read

Reality is not a concept

Though some may wish it were

So they could dry the tears they've wept

For them, or him or her

Shadows are not substance yet

To be grasped by Aesop's dog

We only see the silhouette

Of heaven through the fog

Life is not a metaphor;

For it does not represent

Anything like itself therefore

It gives us not a hint

Of what will be when we are gone

Or what will come tomorrow

Must we face alone the dawn?

Will there be joy or sorrow?

If I said time is a thief

That steals our life away

It would not ease a single grief

Tomorrow or today

If I bowed to God and prayed

Or claimed to know some secret

Death would still find me afraid

My life has known regret

I've said enough so nothing more

Enjoy your wine and bread

For life is not a metaphor

And we'll soon enough be dead

This is beautifully done, F.G. Life is real not metaphor. "Time is not comparison / Of a child upon its bed / To a soldier in the garrison / Quoting books he's read." This reminded me of your new daughter and you. Your poetry is flawless as always. - 'Mimi.

and "I am not a poet, living is the poem." (melanie safka)

yes, our existence is not figurative, it is very literal, real---and we are not immortal...so we had better write ourselves the best we can before
or pages are gathering dust.
