Autumn Needs

Autumn Needs

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin
"

Seasonal

"

Autumn needs pumpkin pie, colored leaves and Halloween

So the harvest festival will be full of Thanksgiving

Days are growing shorter and nights are getting long

The weather’s getter cooler and soon the frost will come

Autumn needs travelers with walking sticks and sweaters

Lovers holding hands as words vanish in the weather

Words are steam upon the air and cloudy charms

When a lover’s body is desired with outstretched arms

Autumn needs wood smoke from morning fires burnt

It needs bounding deer and wild turkeys to hunt

It needs cranberry sauce, candied yams and early fog

The same as Christmas needs Baby Jesus,

Mistletoe and eggnog

Excellent word choice. You have brought to life all the brilliant colors of autumn in here! This poem sounds so cheerful and comforting... and has a pretty musical feel to it..

Thanks for stopping by to read and I appreciate the generous comment. Bless.
Amazing use of words and thoughts. The days of Autumn. Seen slowly and easier. I loved your use of description. Thank you Fabian for sharing your amazing poetry.

Here you've done a good job of capturing all the traditional things that many people think of, regarding this time of year. There's a comforting aspect to your observations & I especially love that you do not get into the materialistic interpretation of the holidays. The first stanza is a little simplistic compared to the other two stanzas, which probe deeper & more complex ideas of the season (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

HAH... The ending made it all happy and snuggly in my mind... Taking me from my colorful leaf-jumping and white-girls ordering pumpkin-everything... To the fancy of white hills and creamy mustaches... An endearing write... Very well penned...

Thank you my poetic friend.
Nice use of imagery here. I could almost smell the wood smoke, something I habitually associate with autumn.
