Strawberry Wine

Strawberry Wine

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin
"

A summer of love.

"

She was sunshine and flowers;

blue jeans and blonde.

We shared our summer hours

with strawberry wine and song

Scent of berries on her lips;

the sensual motion of swaying hips

Arms so pale, like winter willows

Warm breasts, soft as sacred pillows

We found our way to mountain streams,

feet dangling in the water

Making green love into dreams

as July days grew hotter

Every night was rapture waiting

Her song and sweetness captivating

I was caught in forever after

Blue eyes full of lilting laughter

Her once pale arms now brown

Lying in meadows counting clouds

As the sweltering sun went down...

All memory to me now

Nights full as autumn wheat and bright

Dancing underneath the gold moonlight

Reaching out to catch a falling star

To save our love like fireflies in a jar

And on the hills and by the streams

We planted seeds of our magic time

That grew to memories from our dreams

Warm and sweet as strawberry wine

I really love this love poem . . . it reminds me of the exact details of my youth, when love was in the air for me. The details you include are so simple, yet fresh & seductive. I was drawn in by the title especially, becuz of Boone's Hill Strawberry Wine, back in the day, being our mainline to partytime! *wink! wink!* I also like the way your rhymes are casually haphazard & not regimented like mine usually are! *smile* Fondly, Margie

The last lines echoing the title make me feel as though I came full circle, from the actual incident in the poem, now to its memory. I have heard that summer loves are always cursed, and tried to do a poem on summer love, myself (Dandelions)...this poem captures the feel of a fresh young love so well! It made even me, a 23 year old, reminisce about my youth..lol :')))
Excellent writing as always!

Boone' Farm Strawberry wine! This was like visiting my college days! You never fail to amaze me with your ability to paint an atmosphere so completely with so few words. A true craftsman of words.

You got me from the very start. "She was sunshine: blue jeans and blonde." I'm sure you have captured the essence of many first loves. What a beautiful thing to remember and thank you for coaxing it out of the past.

Thank you. I had a particular girl in mind but it pleases me when others find empathy with my words... read more

nice...this poem reminded me of someone so perfectly....just a dream now----she was like the subject of this poem once...and became someone else...i like to remember the former...you helped me to do that.
