Butterfly GoodbyeA Poem by Fabian G. FranklinFor Keri
Too young to leave this world For one so full of life The life of the party girl I would have made my wife
But life is often hard And fate is sometimes cruel It wasn't in the cards Fate dealt for me and you
You always were a refugee Trying to catch the magic coach Your footmen turned to mice again Before the midnight stroke
You could have been Cinderella With candelabra lit Dancing on the ballroom floor But the slipper didn't fit
I sang the words of a Tom Petty song You don't have to live this way You turned it up and sang along But the hurt got in your way
You cried often in my arms I tried to soothe to no avail I held you close like summer rain Trying to hold the wind up with a sail
Remember all the songs we sang Clumsily I strummed my guitar Stood on the ladder of life to hang Our dreams upon some fleeting star
Pain is always with us That's just life I guess But I'll recall your kisses And times of happiness
I'll recall your laughter And all the joy we shared If there's an Ever After I hope you're happy there
You're no longer a refugee But running was getting old I pray your spirit dances free Cinderella on streets of gold
In heavenly direction I'll listen every hour For a new rock n roll section In the angelic choir
And I'll be thinking of you Until the day I die You know I'll always love you Goodbye my butterfly
