Timid Smile

Timid Smile

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

for contest last days in a hospital

"

Timid smile a flaming mask

It is not descriptive of my pain

Face framed tight

salty lips scream of hunger and pain

Hunger and pain oh so real

With a distinct smell of death

Clumsy feet wearing socks

Filled with holes like Swiss cheese

Have lost their rhythm and beat

Afternoons pass without end

Ambitious dreams come to an end

Hope doth squeal for a friend

Pointless hope here in this place

I wish time to turn back to another day

Grey drab dress with ties in the back

Overshadow my petite frame

Making me aware of the end

As I scribble down my fears

You are guiltless in your abandonment

I long for you to have all you deserve.

The end of life makes us humble, it makes us question the immortality projects we undertake in society. Please if you could read my Angst and my Catharsis stories, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I always say death is in black and white. You certainly captured the solemness of life coming to an end.
This is much how I felt last year before heart surgery when I didn't know if I would make it.
