faint outline

faint outline

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

the moon seen by day

"

Ghostly image in a cobalt sky,

barely more than a faint outline.

You inspire by night, as lovers coo.

Beneath your tender covering,

your shadows gently move.

Yet here you are in light of day,

daring and bold as slowly you fade way.

Eagerly awaiting your turn to beam

as the sitting of the sun sets you free.

A ridgeline of pines snake up the ridge

While cascading aspens make a hillside descend,

I from my window see the vast sky unfold.

And there before me, I see you wax full and bold.

There's something about the enigmatic moon... magically hangs in all its varying glories.. ever there even if hidden by clouds and the veil of sleep.

You write so delicately, fine phrases, beautiful direction, ' A ridgeline of pines snake up the ridge ~ While cascading aspens fill in the blanks, '

I wonder, is the moon so incredible because we can't actually feel it...but we can alternatively, feel the heat of the sun? Mistress Moon remains the mystery of all mysteries.. beckoning.. always beckoning.. and your poem refines that thought

So much here to catch hold of and savour. Some of the visuals are classic. so much that I can see them instantly.

Thank you Ken. I'm delighted you liked this one. It is one of my favorites.
dear Cherry... I just made your poem my favorite, because I realize how you describe feelings that many of us have about the Moon; however, you so poetically paint a poem in ghostly terms and even romantic, and of course your closing lines are beautiful. I have written it in my Journal so I can ponder the lines now and then. It is awesome how theatrical the Moon can be. truly, Pat

Nice poem!!! Love the blanket of shadowy moonlight idea. I could almost hear the susurrant whispers of cooing beneath the covers shadows wooing the day to come late while the sky is blueing. I like the day vs night, sun vs moon idea too.

The Moon often gives us Light and direction… the Creation that Gives us Constant Comfort.
It seems the Sky so far has immunity from many maladies… perhaps we see a Vision of Eternity and Heaven will be revealed. Your poetry has given us Hope. gently, Pat

For such a kind review.
I agree we all need more hope.
This poem is so strong- wow, endlessly haunting and it feels so big and breathtaking. The visuals are beautiful and the rhyming is wonderful and unique and it puts together such an amazing poem. ‘Ghostly image in a cobalt sky, barely more than a faint outline.’ What a chilling line. It’s written so cleanly and clearly and feels so unique and new. Thank you so much for sharing!

The old-timers called it "The Children's Moon."
The only time children saw the moon was in those hours just before sunrise or nightfall because many had such early bedtimes.
Sometimes, she watches over us until the bus comes to get my daughter, Crystal in the morning. And if she could speak, I have wondered what she might say to us.
Beautiful words and images, my friend. You always deliver the most magical poetry.

What you see from your window is beautiful, like the Borealis in the midnight sky of the arctic….whether or not it’s imagined or real it’s very special to you…love your images, especially “ daring and bold as you slowly fade away” it’s there momentarily and then gone.
A fine poem.

Nice imagery that holds forth an almost romantic tone as though one were speaking of a lover ... Perhaps those who are lovers basking beneath the warm glow of a softly lit moon ...
