first dates a close second to the dentist

A little wine, a little smile, a little charm, all the while

 dampened embers refuse to ignite.

As forced conversation drags out the night.

With the evening kiss they will depart

This love was doomed from the start.

Yep I prefer the dentist too, but hey you got your point well and truly across. Nothing worse than forced conversation and those long pregnant pauses is there!

I haven't had a date like that in a long time, (probably due to the fact I have been married for 20 years), but I can still remember them like they were yesterday. Yuck. I will say that they do get you to where you want to get to eventually. I will say that you have written this little cheeky poem with heart and the poem itself is very appealing to the eye.
