When Did My Hat Change To Black

When Did My Hat Change To Black

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

almost a song (it's getting closer)

"

When did my hat change, to black,
In younger days, I wore, a-hat-of- white.

And all that knew me
Knew, where I stood, in a fight.

The good days are over
all around me has changed.

I stare in the distance
and see the promise, of rain.

 America’s blessings, are protected
By our, soldier’s, hands,

and that thin blue-line
not, so thin, where I live.

And this old world’s turn’n
Turn’n, down, a dead end.

I close my eyes, and feel
the warmth, of the wind.

So I hung up, my hat of white
And will wear it, on my final, journey home.

Come stand beside me,
and let our voices, bring, change.

In my mind I see momma,
& for me, she waits.

Now, I may never pass, this way, again.
And change, depends on you.

So trust in each other, & speak, the truth.
My time is ending & a new day has come.

An Eagle flies over, and I, I close my eyes,
glance at my watch, and wonder, about the time.

And I ask you my friend,
when did my, hat, change, to black?

Cherry dear... we still wear our original
Hat of Heaven's glow... it has gathered all
the woes of War and Change like a Veil that
we must wear... until the Day when Glory
gathers our feathers and lifts our Spirit to a
place where prayers are answered. gently, Pat

Stay true to yourself

Good morning, Cassie I agree and thank you for stopping by this morning
dear Cherrie... we are fortunate to live long enough to gather rosebuds with the fragrance of hope🇺🇸. The young people will carry the Torch and hopefully take care of all the future
Possibilities. Our Spirt is undeniable. Amen.
truly, Pat

I almost like this piece it's to wordie. Some of the stanzas need trimmed down.
Oh, there’s no almost about it.

This piece soars through the air with its strong philosophy and self-awareness. It made me look into my own wardrobe at my collection of hats. And it is pretty - the words read beautifully out loud.

A clear, distinctive voice that I will be visiting again. :):)

It still has too many words. It popped in my dream and somehow in the translation I bogged it down... read more
I think most of us consider wearing a different hat as we grow old. As Crowly said, Black is the inclusion of all the colours, so that sounds good. And as Einstein says, hopefully the children will ensure a good future for America. You have had a bit of a hard time, you lot over the pond, but I don't think you are the only ones! Perhaps the old world is turn'n, not down a dead end, but through a bit of a 'worm hole' to a brand new world. Your heart-felt poem has given a lot of food for thought. Keep on writing.

When you consider that white is supposed to be the absence of all color and black the inclusion, maybe its not such a bad thing. So hard to sit in any position these days as everyone is so quick to cut you down regardless. For me, like many others that commented on this, I tend to the center and can make up my mind as the information floats down stream to me. Great write...hard point to get across without pissing in someones wheaties...lol.

lol now that's a fact.
Without sitting on the fence, which of course can on the one hand be uncomfortable and on the other, potentially fatal, I tend to adopt the middle way, stance or path.....I am sure there are many messages woven into these fine words, and will eventually find me/us...........orange, is of course the new black.....Neville x

Be gentle...
the right and the left can see what this is about ...but i see the overall conservative voice ...i am a baby boomer and our time is over...i have been passionate about politics and religion and tried my best to pass that along to my children ..but our children grow into young adults ..they leave and we have to let go ...the message that my time is over rings true in my ear ..and for me it is a gentle passing ... America has suffered long and hard in the assaults against a capitalist and independently free citizenship ... the challenges to the Constitution and Bill of Rights are not so clever and sublime any more...they are sounding brass ... that's why i have sound Faith that our children will bring about enough changes of social conscience and environmental preservation that will not cripple and destroy the very freedoms that allow those changes... yes, Cherrie, there is absolute rights and wrongs ... and laws to serve and protect our Citizens ... common sense will prevail so dust your white hat regularly ..you are the hero ;)
