John Steinbeck

A Story by Cherrie Palmer
"

Travels with Charley in search of America

"
I am enjoying this book. I've never read it. I was tired of mysteries and crime and have never loved romance novels.
If you have never read this book give it a look. His easy speech and occasional use of seldom used words is a refreshing blend of honest speech. If you'd like to meet a famous author this book is a friendly hello to the man called John Steinbeck.

Yesterday morning I finished this book, being a product of the 60's it sang to me while I read it. I could picture the people, their clothes, even smells they must of carried.
This book is not the sum of a nation but a snippet in time and place. I will come back and visit this book again.

Hi Cherrie, think I will get hold of this to take away with me at the end of February on a week's break.
Thanks for the recommendation.

I think you will enjoy it.
I always like a good book review, having a kindle and not trusting amazon reviews. I shall certainly be looking at reading this. It is not an author I am overly familiar with, but like the sound (and smells) you incoked in your description.
I shall return once read and give your review a score out of 100 :)

You are talking about my favorite author Cherrie. I have read "The Grapes of Wrath" at least 10 times. Yes I have read "Travels with Charley". I enjoyed it and learned some things during that time period. Steinbeck is a great teacher through his writings. I was born in 1954 and was familiar with what was happening during his travels. I am glad you read the book and would recommend it to everyone.
Peace,
Richie b.

I think it's great to recommend a book here, encouraging writers to read the classics . . . after all, reading is one of the best ways to improve our writing! You've picked our hometown hero, here on the central California coast, which we call "Steinbeck Country". I live in the very hills where "Of Mice and Men" (stunning 1992 film made from Steinbeck's book) was made. The only thing that would be nice to have in your recommendation is a brief synopsis of the storyline to tempt people . . . (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This sounds like an interesting read. I googled it to get an idea of it. Reading certain novels with instrumental classical music on is one of my favorite things. It's a habit I picked up a few years ago when I was reading “A Song of Ice and Fire” series by George R.R. Martin. Other than that I prefer as much silence as possible or nature sounds if im outside. I'm curious to know what type of environment you like when you read. Please keep the book recommendations coming.

Steinbeck is one of my favorites. I have enjoyed every book I have read and Travels with Charley is no exception. there are some scenes in that book that are just astounding, especially when he goes to the south. Great recommendation.

It's a great book. He introduced me to Thomas Wolfe and the concept that you can never go home again a long time ago. His nonfiction is just as good as his fiction.
