My love who is not

My love who is not

A Poem by Cheryl J. Turner

I lay in drifting colours

The words etched in my mind

A thought of perfection

Utterly divine

Solitary confinement

I live in the company of you

My love who is not

My dream that cannot be

I am a floating butterfly

Carried on the breeze

Your name, but a memory

Your touch a hopeless wish

Alone or lonely

My love who is not

My dream that cannot be

I sail, a cloud above you

You sail the seven seas

I cannot help but wonder

If you ever think of me

Quiet to rival silence

My love who is not

My dream that cannot be

I conjure a fairytale

Romance has hit my path

Perhaps when eyes meet again

We'll have our merry dance

Muted, stilled

My love who is not

My dream that cannot be

this is a really great write about longing for that person. It is hard when we travel in different circles of life and sometimes live miles apart. this has a yearning and longing to it that makes me feel almost hopeless. My favorite stanza is the on with the butterfly floating over. Great description in this poem.

I think we all loved that way once... still. It's impossible to forget all that never was but might have been... if only. You just brought it back.

Interesting write. At first I thought it was about a lover who was physically there, but had emotionally left a relationship. But the last stanza cleared that up. The repeating lines at the end of each stanza are effective to me.

I enjoyed.

I was once in love and part of someones life, circumstances cause the break, in time all that was left were memories, this piece rekindled that. Excellent write.
