A Poem by Devan McKinley

So why's it have to be like this?
Why'd you have to take your lips,
And press them onto mine?

I should have expected this.
I'll act like you're hard to miss.
Did you think that we'd be fine?

Just look at what you've done to me.
Break my heart every time you leave.
I thought you might have changed.

Even if we're meant to be,
Our future's getting hard to see.
My life feels rearranged.

I bet she doesn't know I give you love.
You say I'm the one you're thinking of.
You put on quite a show.

Does she ever call your bluff?
What makes you think she's good enough?
I'd really like to know.

I get my hopes up way too high.
Feels like I'm barley getting by.
But don't be fooled, I'm not afraid to be alone.

So when you finally feel like you've got the time,
To stop in and press rewind.
Don't be surprised when I'm not home.
