Friendzoned

Friendzoned

A Poem by Patrick Ramsey
"

How some relationships become.

"
They remained the best of friends,
Being together, thinking together, doing together,
Longing each for something more,
But unable to let go of themselves,
Thriving and relaxing in routine,
Each aided by the notion that,
Each would be there for the other.

They repelled as best of friends,
Always comparing others,
But feeling a perfect symmetry together,
One angle opposite another,
Solved for zero on both sides of an equation,
Seeing outside challengers as a threat,
To the perfection that they seemed to share.

Those that saw them as best of friends,
Often asked if they were together,
Acting so much like a couple,
To which they would both deny,
Implicating a misunderstanding,
Though an understandable one,
Insisting though that they weren't their type.

No more they needed than best of friends,
Hopelessly stuck in their ways,
Unable to make much more room,
In their comfortably predictable lives,
For one more complementary human being,
But one that might throw off equilibrium,
And bring their peaceful status quo crumbling down.

Would they ever be not best of friends?
Time would tell, for tomorrow they would die,
Or maybe the next day, or the next,
Or maybe they had already died,
To more hope in each other,
Or more hope in another future,
Or maybe they just didn't care.

I liked the story and the logic of the poetry. Sometime when friend advance to next place. Friendship can be lost. I liked the ending. Logical and true. Thank you Christopher for sharing the amazing poetry.
