The Journey

The Journey

A Poem by Patrick Ramsey
"

Life and its evolution.

"
There was a day not long ago,
When black was black and white was white,
Dreams of ours within reach,
Life was less complicated,

Young we were, stars in our eyes,
Full of passion, magic alive,
Future written, within reach,
Ours to take, having conquered,

Little did we realize then,
We are the stuff dreams are made of!
Searching for life's answers is as Odysseus' voyage,
Or the search for Nemo.

How rewarding is the journey!
Daily slaving, finding the way,
Meeting friends, who later become memories,
Collecting stories for children, themselves birthed of dreams.

Sailing into the deep unknown,
Where still waters become perfect storms,
Waters that were black and white,
Become endless shades of gray,

We believed it was charted territory,
But nothing really ever is,
Each one is a separate time warp
A unique passage in a worm hole.

But if we had not created our story,
How mundane it would be--
Little boxes full of ticky-tack,
Recycled, sanitized, on display,

Ready for consumers,
To buy and sell at garage sales,
Our worth having been market up at 15%,
Then devalued to a quarter.

We are not perfect,
And yet we are perfectly perfect!
Quality is custom made,
Uniqueness beholds beauty.

Life circles, blends, recycles,
Spitting out evolved consciousness and DNA,
Creating Truth, which turns to legend,
Weaving our story in a tapestry.

And when we've breathed our last,
Our parts, exhausted from full use,
Let us take all joy and squeeze all marrow,
Having fully lived and loved!

I like that, 'having fully lived and loved' after 'weaving our story in a tapestry'. But some people have it much easier than others. I do feel sorry for the young today, but then each age is different. Your story flows well, reminding us to make the most of life, while we are still in our mortal coil.
