Ride Like the Wind

Ride Like the Wind

A Poem by Patrick Ramsey
"

A trip through space and consciousness.

"
Kissing the edge, flirting with expanse,
Touching my toes to the edges of the deep,
My eyes long for it, and want to stare,
Immersed in its beauty, as an outsider,

The Pacific greets me, if only for an afternoon,
Welcoming my pilgrimage, taking my sacrifice,
Honoring that I’ve come to see her,
Enthralled in her captivating beauty and danger,

I pause at a corner, a Zoo City,
Turning me toward my journey’s end,
Offering rest and refuge and sanctuary,
From the upcoming deluge,

The oasis welcomes with peace and serenity,
Reminding of present love and joy,
Then sends me to the desert,
To prepare my heart for manhood,

The rocks, sand and dirt,
Weathered by millennia,
Moving at the deepest rhythm,
Know nothing new under the sun,

On the 8, Tijuana beckoned from afar,
Then Tuscon and Yuma, as Tucumcari had before,
Reminding me of my stories, good, bad and ugly,,
As I passed them in the desert sun,

I stopped by chance to fill and refresh,
Enchanted by idols and altars,
That would remind me of the moving rocks,
And give me strength for the journey into death,

Then soon my journey was over,
Having passed by the border,
Danced with my rock comrades,
And eulogized my soul,

Preparing for its phoenix birth,
Amidst the likes of Dr. Strange
And his mindfuck circus,
In Arkham Asylum.

When my soul was birthed,
Is hazy at best,
Perhaps I’ve escaped to freedom,

Or perhaps I’m running the place!

Great writing! The journey across the literal and figurative desert, with body and mind intertwined..."The Pacific greets me...honoring that I've come to see her".Eloquent, evocative with beautiful imagery- "phoenix birth"...Kudos!
