Denny's Song (If I Had My Way)

Denny's Song (If I Had My Way)

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

This song was written with the late Dennis Martin (Fletterich) and was written for my missing son, Dennis Martin Shanaberg. He was about six months old, at the time that It was written.

"

DENNY'S SONG

(IF I HAD MY WAY)

If I had my way,

The stars would shine so bright

To twinkle in your eyes,

But the stars

Aren't always peeking

Through the clouds,

So, I'll just dream away

This night

And hope for the stars

To come out, once again,

To shine for you.

I can't count on the stars,

      But I can count on you;

Your beauty outshines the stars in the sky

      That shine for you.

If I had my way,

The moon would shine so bright

To glimmer on your hair,

But the moon

Doesn't shine much

In a stormy sky,

So, I'll just wish away

This night

And hope for the sleeping

Man-in-the-Moon

To rise for you.

I can't trust in the moon,

But I can trust in you,

     Your beauty awakes the Man-in-the-Moon

     To rise for you.

If I had my way,

You'd be here with me

And stars and

The moonlight, too,

And I would kiss your

Sleepy eyes,

As you whisper

A sweet "Good Night,"

And the Man-in-the-Moon

Will keep a watchful eye

Over me and you.

Gosh, I remember little Denny sitting awake, for hours, in a little baby chair on the coffee table, while we wrote this amazing song. I wish you could hear it with the music.

The dedication of this poem is truly sad and in reference to that, this poem seems to take a deeper and more emotional appeal. I can really imagine this poem, what with all its cute repetitions, as a children's lullaby. Beautifully written.

Keep Writing. ^___^

I remember this beautiful blond haired baby boy. It has been many years ago that I got the chance to see him and I still believe in my heart that one day he will look for his real Mom to learn the truth about the ones who took him away.
