Man of the Past

Man of the Past

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

I really did write this one at the Cleveland Zoo!

"

MAN OF THE PAST

I sat on a bench, at the zoo,

And watched the people passing through,

Pointing at each cage, they passed by,

Following a fact-filled guide;

Well, it really seems to me

That the wrong creatures are free;

Could you imagine the tour booklet,

With each person listed in it;

Stay away from the bars;

This man couldn't; he'd stay for hours;

Adults, you may, step up this ramp

To view our latest bevy of vamps;

Next, the forever cheating husband;

His knuckles swollen from an overactive wedding band;

Here is the american housewife;

Chocolates and soap operas are her life;

Now, we have the president of an inflated country,

Where as along as you're free, it's alright to go hungry;

Let's pass by the liberated women;

They have no real cause; they just fight to win;

We have reached the drug pusher;

To our children, a new type of candy vendor;

At last, the intelligent criminal;

He does as he pleases and he does well in jail;

Closely view the teens of today;

These were so violent, their parents run away;

Here is a conservative, moral man of the past;

He is a dying breed, that can not last.

Author's Note

Christina May Shanaberg
Before you get mad at me about the stereotypes of housewifes and liberated women, I am not talking about all housewifes and I have no desire to be liberated; I love being pampered and put on a pedestal. However, I think that you have to keep a man's house organized for him, because he wants to come home to a hot meal, a hot wife, and a warm and cozy castle. Also, I am not talking about all teenagers.

I like the description of the people. Sometime I see sadness and confusion in the eyes of people. A lot of people have a heavy weight to carry trying to keep a float in this world. I like your author note. A entertaining poem.

If all of these ungodly people were housed in the zoo, instead of the animals we love to see, there would be an empty place. Even the animals have more sense.

Interesting, I like the concept. However I think soap operas are a little outdated.
Most of them are being shut down now. Would have been nice to see a sex addict passing his day with porm. Nice poem.
