Evening at Nornalup

Evening at Nornalup

A Poem by peter Duggan
"

All about the Place I love to take my holidays

"

Evening at Nornalup

White skeleton branches that reach for the sky

Stand out from a cloak of rich green

As a small honey eater breaks into a song

On this evening so soft and serene

This bird sings a song to the dark silent forest

As it bids to the daylight ‘goodnight’

And the tired fading sun makes way for the evening

As darkness does cloak the daylight.

A bright painted parrot finds rest in a tree

A Rosella all painted so bright

Then feeds from the birdseed in little bird feeder

As his colours my senses delight

Soft silence takes over as it does each new dusk

And a little boat floats down the river

And adds to the feel of the rich mystic moment

And bliss to my soul does deliver

A soft gentle voice sings out of the evening

And joins in the silence of night

As the blanket of darkness awakens the spirits

That do in this darkness delight.

Here on the banks of the grand Franklin river

So far from the dust and the smoke

The river flows by on this cool velvet evening

And the mystic in me does evoke

Nornalup, eh? Funny name...not sensible like the names of places here in the States, like Oshkosh,Michigan, Accident, Maryland,Big Arm, Montana..Chicken,Alaska,
Cut And Shoot, Texas Dogtown, Alabama,Embarrass, Minnesota.Intercourse, PA, Cat Pee, NM...Never mind.

A delightful write! Nornalup sounds like the place to unwind :) When we are absorbed in the natural rhythms of nature, our souls are refreshed.

Great poetry.
