My book of secrets

My book of secrets

A Poem by Gathering_Stars

i invented the question mark, just so that people could understand my genius.
i scaled everest in a single bound, just to prove that i could.
i caught a tsunami in the palm of my hand, and then i let the fish swim back out into the rest of the ocean;
i poured the water in my hands out from the sky,
so no, rain is not angel's tears, but thunder is their laughter;
i made all of heaven laugh with my amazing sense of humor.
i told the joke that made lucifer roll with laughter along side jesus.
i've spent my life since then trying to compete with myself.
i played on broadway, and since then the lights on that street of gold
have been powered by my electricity.
i walked along the beaches of Normandy, picking up every bullet i found fired,
and put them back into the barrels of those guns that fired them.
i made peace between broken brothers; reunited lost families.
i shook hands with the president and he asked me for my advice
i prayed with the pope and he asked of me the same.
i was the first to discover that you can mend a broken heart
with duct tape and love.
the cavemen may have discovered fire, but i was the one to light it in people.
i call it passion.
i came across two roads in a yellow wood that diverged,
and i took both of them.
i walked all the way along the Great Wall of China in a single day.
that bridge that everyone jumps off of just to jump?
ever wonder who built it?
yeah that was me.
i've had my cake and i even ate it too, it was chocolate and delicious.
i flew a kite to heights that laughed at the moon on a day what had no wind.
i died and found out that it wasn't as scary as people think.
people tell me all of the time that they wish that they could be me.
my secret?
so do i.

This has been on my to read list for a while and I don't know why I didn't read it sooner. It was brilliant! Inventive and funny and confident and slightly sarcastic.....I could probably go on. But all that would result in would be a very long review and a long way to go just to reinforce the fact that I loved it.

"i've had my cake and i even ate it too, it was chocolate and delicious."

I think this poem is a chocolate cake, it was delicious :)

this is pretty. powerful too. i like how it is sort of a matter-of-fact conversation with the reader - that's unique, at least of any poetry i've read. very cool. : )

I'm pretty sure that vampires, Harry Potter, and Albert Einstein live in a parallel universe. Actually I think that Albert Einstein somehow mis-haped himself into ours by some freak accident; althoug.. more..
