broken eyes

broken eyes

A Poem by Coccinellidae

I once told you that I had broken eyes

I was referring to

my body

my body.

of which we spoke so much

so intimately

of which I allowed you to taste

and see

and feel

from the inside.

I loved that you loved my body

my scars

I loved that you loved my words

broken eyes

you found it poetic

and I loved it

loved you.

What I didn't even know then

was how broken my eyes really were

as I said those words to you

their real brokenness

was in how they were seeing you

But that I can write these words now

feel this calm

quiet this storm inside me

see your charade

means my eyes may not be as

broken

as I thought.

Thank you so much. Relationship agony does wonders for the growth of the spirit and the creative.
There's something really beautiful and profound about this poem. I love poems that deal with self-discovery. Well done :-) Can't wait to see more.
