Don't Rewrite Me

Don't Rewrite Me

A Poem by Elizabeth Fiske
"

Wanting to explore the world on your own, and wanting to follow your dreams

"
No matter how much I grow,
I will always be on my own.
I don't need anyone to tell me
Who or what I need to be.
I got a good head on my shoulders,
And I've checked my logic,
Over and over.
I don't need another opinion,
I surf with the wave I'm given.
Give me some slack, a break.
My life is a song,
The duet is done wrong.
I can be anything I want,
Everything I should not.
So stop trying to control me.
I've got my own strong knees.
I don't give a damn what you say;
I know me, I know who I am.
And I won't give you my hand,
You will just take me to where I began
If you give me some room
I might let you in.
I have a dream,I have a plan
You just have to believe,
In me.
So, stop trying to rewrite me.
Although,
No matter how much I grow,
I will always be on my own.

It seems we are talking about parents here. People have their own idea where they want one to go and they never check in to see if that person wants to go in that direction. I like the strength in this one and the determination. Great write.
