peace on a leash

peace on a leash

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson
"

keep it together.

"

i light a cigarette in june

and blow smoke up to the ceiling fan.

i have mailed six poems to the city magazine

to be reviewed and published

and tonight i will write a new one,

maybe a dirty one,

while i smoke and contemplate

lines and angles

and the economy of the mind.

the moon and the sun

pass one another

and give a little nod

as the night shift

begins.

Poetry is like peace on a leash. Poetry brings peace while you hold the leash.
"and tonight I will write a new one"
The problem is that you normally don't know what the next one will be until inspiration/infuriation gives a tug on that leash you hold in your hand that guides you through life.

Nice little diddy. I could see this as a nursery rhyme.
