Dusk

Dusk

A Poem by Cole Hayley

Dusk

The people are dancing
And I am slinging drinks
Dancing in my own right

George Murray says there is poetry in this
In the abrasive light system, in the freeze
Of the room, the AC minus 2, last week
The speakers got overheated and blew
For now movement will have to do -
Poetry in movement, in the girls moving
In the boys movings, in the careful dare and dance
And negotiations of love; poetry in the rulebook
That will lead to these two going home together;
Poetry in the Jagertrain along the bar, in the domino effect
In the graph of the effect alcohol and caffeine has on the body;
Poetry is the high of caffeine and alcohol on the body;
Poetry in the 3 for 10s, in the 6 for 20s, in the 9 for 30s in the
New tabs and money spent on cabs -
Poetry in the Indias, in the Black Horse, in the MGDs
I understand I can write about almost anything on this Earth and it would be well deserved.

I will write a song for dirt,
I will write a haiku for worms,
I will write a poem for the nightclub that I work

Now I’m smiling,
George, you’re cunning,
There is a noticeable increase in my tips.
