Something You Should Know About Me

Something You Should Know About Me

A Poem by Colette
"

a little female empowerment

"

I’m not an easy catch

If you find me sittin’     on your lap     purring

You better stroke me right

Cuz I’m a runner

I need that reassurance     that I am spectacular

spectacular as I think I am

that     we     are     as magical as the four seasons

magical     as earth intended us to be

I need that investment of time

because life is short     I’m not 18

and     I might be on life 9

I will slip through your fingers

like a cat slipping through your legs

maybe     to never be caught again

I might make a good plaything

but     a yo-yo I’m not

You can’t throw me out like dat     then throw me down!

I’ll turn into a tangled mess

You’ll never be able to reel me up     again

It happens   every time

Every time     I’m telling you

I know human nature     intimately

Every time     the person lovin’ on me sits

on the fence of indecision

the other cats     and their best dawgs     wait

on the sidelines to be called in

They wait     patiently     sometimes for years

for the opportunity to have what could be yours

because     they know     and I know

if you turn your back     on me

if you pass that torch     it’s gonna be lit

by the next in succession

I’ll level the playa field

I do it well

I box my way     outta hell

I numb myself     with someone

Younger, Hotter, Healthier     than You

I can abstain     if I’m in it to win it

I can maintain     months     years     without sex

when I have the ambition to wait for a winner     to

melt bodies and souls with

You see     it’s not worth it to me

to be involved with someone     who

doesn’t compliment my lifestyle

I don’t understand those who do

stay    in a less than optimal relationship

The romantic in me wants all that I can imagine     granted this

I will be a fiery     monogamous     passionate

Lover

The realist in me will f**k it up     will f**k another

If you show signs of indecision

I’ll do this     to chase the fantasy of love

out of my fantastic mind

I’m telling you

something you should know about me.....

I’m like a wild horse that needs to be broken

I’m telling you

you have to capture me     and harness my love

I’m telling you

I’m worth it.

Look me in the mouth

I dare you
