The Burning Heart

The Burning Heart

A Poem by ColoursOfTheKeys
"

The first stages of a new romance are always exciting; when you know you've found someone very special it's something else again.

"
Shades of grey upon grey, dull tones on an empty background,
Flicks of colour flaring, quickly extinguished. Crushed.
Searching for reasons to use the talents bestowed on me, something to care for.
Such was my life, an easy life, but not a life.
Pushing away those getting too close, suppressing hope or real passion.
Nature's antidepressant keeping me up, pulling me down.

But then you entered my life, you opened the lock,
of the caged dragon so ready to spread its' wings,
and it roared and blew a flame so hot; it stole the very breath I was taking.
I'm burning inside again, and I'm powerless to stop it.

Burning with newfound energy, passion, desire to do better,
My head spinning in the midst of tumbling words and phrases,
So beautiful and profound in my mind, I really must share.
If only they could have the same power to you.

I'm on a slippery slope and I'm gaining speed,
please, don't let me fall!
You've stolen a piece of my heart, and you don't even know it,
You can't give it back, even if you did.
I hope you wouldn't, even if you could.
There's only one way to be whole, it's what I desire,
with all that remains of my burning heart.
