How Much--a new look

How Much--a new look

A Story by Constance Payne
"

Often when we are late we do not realize how much we take from another

"
One minute
Sixty seconds
Is that so much to ask?
Yet ~
When you are always late by one minute you may end up stealing a lifetime from the people around you.
If you are always late and people are waiting for you to arrive so that they can begin then they become late as well.  This reflects not only upon ability but upon respect for others.
But, one minute is not much you say, well let us look at it a different way.
If you are one minute late for work every day of the week you have stolen five minutes from your boss and co-workers.  That five minutes over the course of a year will end up being 4 1/2 hours.
Work at your job for ten years and you are late by one minute each day that is 43 1/2 hours you have taken from your employer, your co-workers, your life.
How would you feel if you were your boss?  Would you fire you?
If you are making people wait on you while you are late you are stealing time from their lives.
How much are you stealing?

I am a stickler for being not only on time, but early. It really frustrates me when people are late - and your piece explains the reason well - I feel like I am being robbed of my valuable time. I should slip this essay under the door of some colleagues!

I would be honored for you to do that. :) I would rather be an hour early than one minute late.

True, or very lucky. :)
I am always on time for work, that is just the way I am, but if I were my boss, I'd fire me anyway...just because.

I like this.

So true! It's a pity you don't get the time back when you're early/work 5 mins late though....

Exactly--you're right. I really hate being late for anything. Early is better. Twenty years in the military, we all had to be on time, or else.
