Uniquely Individualistic

Uniquely Individualistic

A Poem by Constance Payne
"

We all question our own mattering.

"
Setting at my desk
In the office
In a corner
Out of the way
In a group of others
Working Together
Yet Apart
Doing the same as
Another
Answering Phones
Completing Paperwork
Attempting to Make a Sale
Day in
Day out
Always
To the best of my ability
Hoping to do right by the
Customer
The Owners
The other staff
Our Paychecks
Working as a Group
For Ourselves
Wondering
When I look at my
Day of Accomplishments
Knowing that as an
Individual
Who does things
In a Uniquely Honest Way
Yes!
I do matter
And
Individualistically
I am AMAZING!

There's a big contrast between the first and last half of this poem: the first half seems to be saying the job is worthless and mundane, yet the second half says not. Perhaps the difference we feel between coming in to work on Monday morning and leaving in the evening having accomplished something?
