Appreciation

A Poem by CookeCody

As a steady middle-class dependent whose mother's income has always been enough to make do, I often find myself failing to grasp the full weight of what it means to be grateful. I'm happy with my living conditions, but what should I do to prove that? Should I even have to prove that? Whatever the case, here is how I feel

###################################

I sit on the counter

of a decaying house,

a low-income supper

boiling on the stove;

a finger of water

is in my plastic cup.

And yet, I am grateful.
