Forgive

Why is it so much easier for some to hold a grudge rather than just saying "I Forgive You"?

Forgiveness seems to be the one emotion we never allow ourselves to feel…

It’s too much like giving up, too much like … being weak

It’s fine that we break down, and torture ourselves over the way we feel when

We’ve been broken down so low by someone who never gave a damn to begin with

They won’t do it again, so there’s no need to bring up the past

No need to talk it out, rehash the pain because it’s just too much

To consider that maybe the forgiveness is for US, not for them.

They’ve gone on about their lives, they’re doing just fine

And you’re here trying to figure out why something as simple as a word

Or the mention of their name sends you into a frenzy

Yelling obscenities and saying things you’d later regret

Once they step to you and say “Are we still cool?”

You say “sure” because holding that personal grudge is just so much easier

Than swallowing your pride and saying “No… but I forgive you.”
