The Words
-

Sometimes the words come out so perfect
They see, they hear, they touch, they know
Carefully jumbled like organized chaos
They seek, they hope, they understand

You walk into a room feeling distressed
Life's pain and angst caused you to be
You then hear the words of a trouble resolved
They are strong, they are wise, they can help

Inspiration's garden grows without dirt nor water nor light
Life and death, with love and hate, sustain it
Drench it with your feelings and devour it whole
Replenish it with your spirit, your creative, wistful soul

The power of words still astounds the world
Speeches and toasts and poetry, prose
The light, the dark, the aged and the modern
Words can change it, alter the mind, and soar the spirit

Do you feel it now? How those words can make you think?
This world that was full of empty minds
Until one discovered how to speak
They teach, they learn, they listen, they grow

You cross a line between fiction and reality
And it feels so good, you never want to leave
For a brief moment, it's like you're insane and inspired
It takes you on a journey through Heaven and Hell

But, the journey never ends, it keeps building and feeling
Your life is like an epic poem climbing up until the end
But, death within itself is a journey through the unknown
And the speaking and the writing goes along with you

And the genre is amazing because there is none
You can write for you, your love, your long lost friend
Romance, friendship, distrust, life, love, children, cats
Anything with words, anything with emotion

Feel the pain in someone's story
Get involved, entrenched, and maybe enlightened
Have empathy, warmth and easy compassion
Then rage about poverty, hatred and war

Every person on this land has had a story
Maybe one that has never been told
So, pick up your pencil, your keyboard, or phone
And tell of your adventure through feeling and song

The words have traveled all the world, touching everyone along the way
They have seen you in your weakest hour
And walk with you everywhere that you go
For, they see, they hear, they touch and they know

You've summed up the writing instinct perfectly. Why we're all gathered here on this website reading and writing. You've also express thoughts I identify with -- from almost getting drunk on words to tell a story about everything trivial to monumental. And I agree, everyone has a story. The power of language is in good hands here.

your personification of words in this poem is amazing...

it is as if they have a life of their own...sometimes it feels they write themselves..
they never abandon us...they are there when we need them...to console, to persuade, to illuminate what is inside...what would we do without them?

Words are indeed powerful, Kelly. They have moved the world on many, many occasions. A very meaningful and strong poem. I enjoyed reading it very much.
