Cheers to You

Cheers to You

A Poem by Crystal Lynn
"

"O most pernicious woman!/O, villain, villain, smiling, damned villain! My tables, meet it is I set it down, That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain." --Hamlet from Hamlet, Act I, scene 5

"

A tribute to you

My many smiling villains

You who turned wicked plots

Ways to bring me down

But you haven’t.

You didn’t.

You won’t.

For all your evil tricks

To pull at my confidence

Pound on my insecurities

Pick at my self-esteem

It was in vain!

I’m better

Stronger

Wiser

Because you

Would have me crumble

But I haven’t.

I didn’t.

I won’t.

So, in earnest,

Here’s to you

For showing me

I can roll with your punches.

I’m better for it now.

For your failed plans

To shatter my dreams

Stamp the best of me

Smash my self worth

Thank you!

I did not read a cynicism nor a sarcasm in this piece for some reason, and because of that - I felt a sincere power come from it. There was no bitterness, saying that I am hardened woman because of you. No, this was I am a strong woman because of you. This is not the victim of games, this is a person who learned to be strong from them - learned who they are - and blossomed from all that fertilizer they would have buried her beneath. This is a strong work describing a strong woman - well done.
